The council meeting addressed several key agenda items, including public meetings regarding zoning bylaw amendments for 102 Railway Avenue, which was approved. There was also a detailed presentation on the Active Transportation Plan, a 20-year strategy focused on expanding infrastructure such as sidewalks, trails, and cycling networks to accommodate future growth. The council discussed the controversial extension of the rail trail and the financial implications of implementing the plan, noting the potential need for future tax levy increases. The importance of rail safety and local community events like the Elderton Fair were also highlighted.
The committee reviewed multiple minor variance applications regarding zoning bylaw relief. Key discussion topics included a request for reduced exterior sideyard setbacks to construct a new detached dwelling at 1056 Oxbow Drive; approval for increased lot coverage to replace an accessory building at 24317 Coldstream Road; a proposal for a larger accessory building with an included home occupation (interior design studio) at 12426 Elderton Road; and a request for an increased maximum size for an accessory structure at 23804 Bear Creek Road, involving considerations for woodland conservation on the property.
The council held a closed session to review updates regarding two grant applications and a staffing matter. Following the session, the council approved the adoption of bylaws numbered 55 through 62, as listed on the agenda. The meeting concluded with a formal motion to adjourn.
