- The 38th Guam Legislature passed amendments appropriating $19.9 million in excess Section 30 revenues to Guam Memorial Hospital for a modern electronic health record system and related infrastructure improvements. - Guam Memorial Hospital's current EHR consists of a legacy system and two others that crash consistently, disrupting workflows and billing, with support for billing servers ending in December. - Lawmakers amended the bill's legislative intent to explicitly direct the entire amount to support the hospital's EHR acquisition, over concerns raised about transparency and a potential $170 million total cost.
- Dr. Manu requested council support to bring an ultrasound machine to the township, citing the complete lack of local diagnostic imaging services. - Patients face significant access barriers, with staff sometimes spending over an hour to arrange urgent same-day ultrasounds, often sending patients to emergency rooms. - An imaging company approached the medical center to supply an ultrasound machine with all costs covered, and the township would face no financial burden. - Council members voiced unanimous support, citing personal ER wait experiences and the rural community's need, and passed a resolution to provide a formal letter of support.
